A new study led by Neal Masia, Vice President of Patient & Health Impact at Pfizer, and Adjunct Professor of Business in the Management Division at Columbia Business School in New York, assessed how changes in childhood vaccine investment impact a country's gross domestic product (GDP). Using the DTP (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis) as a proxy for vaccination programs generally, the research findings show that improved childhood vaccination rates were associated with economic growth, suggesting a significant and long-term increases in the GDP growth rate.

Columbia Business School lost a longtime friend and supporter when Daniel Cain '72 passed away on March 31 at his home in West Cornwall, Connecticut, after an illness. Cain was a member of the School’s Board of Overseers, which he first joined in 2000, and his generosity supported many academic and scholarly initiatives. Along with contributions from the employees of the healthcare investment banking firm he co-founded, he endowed the Cain Brothers & Company Professorship of Healthcare Management in the Faculty of Business. 

Early detection is critical for improving treatment efficacy for those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and it’s often those closest to a child who notice the first signs. New research from Columbia Business School, Carnegie Mellon University, and the Seaver Autism Center for Research and Treatment at Mt. Sinai reveals that children who had older siblings or frequent interaction with grandparents were diagnosed earlier with ASD.
