Given the recent US election, instability in Europe, reliance on foreign investment in US markets, and recent valuations in commercial real estate, the panel provided some varied and interesting perspectives on what it means to be a global investor in today’s world.  By Sofia Zamora ’18 and Morgan Mann ’17

Anthony Feenick '17 has been awarded an inaugural CoreNet NYC 2016 Scholarship for the 2016-2017 academic year. 

On Friday, December 9th, students in Adjunct Associate Professor Andrew C. Jacobs’ '96 Real Estate Project Class presented their final presentations as part of the Alexander Bodini Foundation Competition held in Uris Hall.

Rachel Diller ’99 is Partner and Head of Bridges UrbanView. She has taught the Social Impact Real Estate Investing and Development course at Columbia Business School since 2014. In a recent interview with Conor O’Neill ’17, she discussed her professional experience, her approach to creating impact through the built environment, and her advice for aspiring real estate professionals.  

On Friday, December 2, 2016 the Real Estate Association (REA) and members of the Paul Milstein Center for Real Estate toured 50 West Street, a 191-unit ground-up luxury residential condominium development in Lower Manhattan. 

On Friday November 11th, 2016 the Real Estate Association (REA) and members of the Paul Milstein Center for Real Estate toured Flushing Commons, a mixed-use development site with residential condominiums, office space, parking, and an open-air public plaza including outdoor restaurants and shops. 

Searching for palm trees, sandy beaches, and celebrity mansions, the Real Estate students who traveled to Los Angeles from November 7-8 were given a privileged, A-lister’s peek into LA’s diverse and dynamic real estate market, currently in the midst of extraordinary change.

On November 17th, the University of Texas at Austin – McCombs School of Business hosted the 14th Annual National Real Estate Challenge sponsored by Invesco. Twenty of the top MBA programs participated in the competition. Columbia Business School, represented by Mark Abramowicz ’18, Samuel Fenwick ’18, Anthony Feenick ’17, Daniel Liu ’17, Nicholas Mellis ’17, and Joe Noon ’17, placed 3rd in the competition behind the host university and Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management.  

On Friday, November 18th, graduate students from the Real Estate programs at Columbia, MIT, and NYU gathered in Uris Hall for the 5th annual Coming to Terms: Negotiating Real Estate Joint Ventures workshop. The event which is co-sponsored by the Paul Milstein Center for Real Estate, the MIT Center for Real Estate, the Columbia Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, and Grosvenor, provided students from each of the different programs the opportunity to spend a full day discussing key issues in a real estate joint-venture (JV) agreement and to engage with seasoned professionals from both the legal and business sides of the real estate industry.  

The Columbia Business School Real Estate Association (REA) is pleased to announce the assistant vice presidents elected for the 2016–17 academic year. The officers, all in the class of 2018, were elected by the REA membership.
